Replaced head gasket on 1.2 Rreg last weekend, everything went fine, timing spot on etc etc. Engine idles really lumpy and makes a really loud high pitched whine from somewhere round the inlet manifold. Checked all obvious loose pipes sensor connections etc. Definately not EGR as still makes noise when removed and holes blocked. Also seems to be guzzling petrol. Engine warning light is not on. Any ideas, ready to give up!!

As a matter of interest.How long have you had the car..And has the warning light ever illuminated.Is it a cam driven or chain..Guzzling petrol would suggest air flow problem.or sensor not picked up by ECU.Though would find that strange if it hasnt/not detected any problems?
