Not my very own unfortunately!
SWMBO has (bless her) bought some time at Silverstone in an F355.
Has anyone done anything like this before, and would they like to share their experiences?
Also, should I sell the Passat, commute to work on the train, and buy a Triumph Spitfire for weekend & summer fun?

"Also, should I sell the Passat, commute to work on the train, and buy a Triumph Spitfire for weekend & summer fun?"
From where to where?

Huntingdon to Welwyn Garden City, 40 miles of A1. I suppose in the summer I could also commute by Spitfire here and there if it was running well.

Try it for two months, then decide.

Did it a few years ago as a bit of a freebie from Company that was trying to woo ours. Good day out had a laugh.

I've been on the Silverstone half-day in an S3, 911, 355 and Viper.
Great fun.

Do the Spitfire! Or even better a TR7 drophead, good owners club as the TR Register (www.tr-register.co.uk) and better for motorway work as a 2litre with a 5 speed box. Much safer & more modern feeling as well. You'll probably get a good 7 for Spitfire money.

TR7? No brakes and apalling build quality when new.
Just like all Triumphs . except perhaps a TR3A

NO worse than any other BL car of the period for build, vast majority will have been reworked and 30 years on build quality is irrelavent anyway..
Brakes dependant on driving style, road tests of the period are 50/50 on brakes but little money to upgrade to Capri 2.8i which are the most a road 2 litre will need. But good handling, roadholding and very strong build. Crash tested to a spec that was dropped afterwards, door bars and very modern feel generally. Certainly better than Spit which has origins in late 50s

You talk plenty of sense Jim, but unfortunately I don't want a modern feel!
I want to experience 60's motoring, and I've fallen in love with the Spitfire.

I had a Mk 2 Spitfire in the early 70's, hardtop. I thought it was fun, only thing that went on it over 3 years was the clutch.
The swing axle rear suspension was, shall we say, "interesting. I think later models were different.
