This weeks poll, as suggested by Duchess:-

Why The AA and The RAC but just "Green Flag" ?
Also the phrase "Not a member" would cover those people not a member of a club such as the RAC, but that wouldn't cover the people who, whilst they are not a member of such a club, still pay Green Flag for the service under examination.
|
Oh for heavens sake. It was late when I set the poll up, it's even later now....
If it's ok with you, I'll sort it out at a reasonable hour, rather than silly o'clock.

What about having a "Report message as pedantic" button?!! ;-)

>>Oh for heavens sake
Surely "heaven" should be regarded as possessive and therefore perhaps you should consider the use of an apostrophe ?
Helpful of RLBS.

Why The AA and The RAC but just "Green Flag" ?
Right, *hopefully* sufficiently sorted to satisfy the pedantic one from RLBS.
|
Well, I dunno so much.....
"I Am Not A Member Of a Breakdown Service"
Why are all the words capitalised ?
If I pay Green Flag for their breakdown and recovery insurance, I'm not sure that makes me a "member" of something in any case.
This is all very shabby and careless.

I did say *hopefully* sufficiently sorted.
But obviously not.

In severe cases like this, professional counselling is vital. The number of Pedants Anonymous is Freephone 0800 9182736.

If they wish to remain anonymous, why do they have a contact No.?

Strange innit? Just the same with Alcoholics Anonymous.

Because how will anybody know that you are being deliberately anonymous unless you are able to ring up and refuse to give your name ??
If you don't do that, or have the opportunity to do that, nobody will realise that you are being anonymous, they'll just think that nobody knows your name.

Other; 2 cars and a motor-bike covered by GEM for about £65 per year. You have to pay up front and claim back from GEM. Never used them yet ... [Reaches for rabbit's foot]

I've voted "Other" because I'm not sure to which I belong.
I have the HSBC Breakdown Plan which covers me for legal and household problems, as well as breakdown cove for my car. I'm not sure who runs it, but I suspect it's Green Flag. I'm also covered with Honda Assistance for three years with my new Accord. I've no idea which service that is.

Currently GEM - covering a car a two motorbikes. Was £39 and still is for a new member via some web sites. However the renewal is 70 odd quid and you can't cancel and come in as a new member as they say there must be a 4 month gap.
So come renewal time I'm moving to AutoAid - no web site

I am not a member of a breakdown service
Why?
Well to be honest I can't be bothered filling out a form and choosing from several companies a service which I may never use. I carry enough carp in the boot to fix most things that an AA man wouldn't have to tow me away for.
But what if you breakdown and have to be towed? Without a policy that'll be expensive!
I haven't broken down in 3 years of motoring and I'm sure by the time I do break down I'll have enough money stashed away by not paying for cover that I'll be able to afford the tow truck. OK, it'll be a lot of money to loose at once, but at least it'll have gained interest!
What about a puncture on the motorway? You don't want to be stuck on the hard shoulder fixing a pucture with lorries driving past at 70!
Well that's the only Achilles heel of my plan. If I'm brave enough I might do it myself. Otherwise, yes, I will have to call someone out and yes that will be expensive (for a puncture).

Just let my GEM membership lapse. My Terrano only does about 5-6000 miles a year and hardly leaves this city. If we go anywhere else we use my wife's Jazz that uses half the fuel. Anyway, planning to buy a new car soon with breakdown cover in the warranty.
Can't see the point of paying GEM £71.

off hand i dont know who i am with , sorted through my insurance all i do know is it's not green flag as made sure of this before agreeing to it , due to a bad experience in the pat with them which cost me a lot of money although it was a problem with the insurance company who assured me i had full cover recovery when in fact i only had basic breakdown cover apparently . suffice to say one bad experience and mucho wonga later... well. ...cheers...keo

Well - I chose because I have a free 3 year RAC brakdown package with my new Nissan Primastar.
In addition the wife was keen to have breakdown cover and I drive a Discovery (enough said you may say!)
So I got a deal with RAC to take out a separate poliicy for both of us that includes home start, recovery and roadside assistance for both of us for £70 a year, which whilst not the cheapest, was not bad.
The bizaar thing is that technically I don't now need the breakdown cover with the van!

Why isn't there an option for Dad's garage? Has saved me from the roadside on numerous occasions!
|
Hi,
My company Primera covered RAC (Nissan Assistance)(Used once last year. Yes new Nissan Primera Broke Down on Sunday morning on Holiday) RAC arrived 15 mins and got managed roadside repair.
Wife's old car was Citroen Assist (Kept renewing it at cost £65) which is run by Green Flag. Had to use 3 times (child locked in car, Boot would not shut and broke down 2 weeks a go and all occasions Green Flag have responded in 20-40 mins.
Due to last break down we have just bought wife new Renault Scenic which comes with AA cover (Had to pay £50 extra to cover 'non warrantee incident cover' for the 3 years.
Cheers

With the way so much work is out sourced, by the BIG names, guess everyone should really tick 'other'!!
Mrs V gets the Mazda sevice, 'cos it's still within warranty.
But we've got some sort of 'free' cover, for my new Omega, with a credit card. I'll see what that includes, before I think again.
