POR15 www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp?catID=55

Did my wishbones three years ago and they still look as they were just done. Not that cheap, but I thought it was a good investment.

Try this link.

Please be aware that the thread contains mild profanities. However what they say and the pictures and enthusiasm re the underside restoration really shows. They have lots of info re painting, powder coating parts on both the concours section as well as the rebuild section.

martint123...can you tell me more about por15?? i tried some a while and didnt follow the instuctions exactly, it peeled..id be intrested in trying it again

how clean were your parts? rusty?? is it driven in all weather?

as for powder coat, im worried that when it does strt to go i cant do local touch ins ..and it could be rotten underneath before i find out

as for hammerite...never liked it that much, its alright for brackets or a garden gate , but i find it chips too easy for under the car

thanks for the replys :)

Main thing about por15 (and probably others) is to make sure there is no oil or grease on the surface you are covering/painting - waxoil takes some getting rid of!. They sell a cleaner, but I used gunk followed by thinners. I didn't get down to shiny metal, there was a touch of surface rust, but no flaky stuff. No sign of it coming through at present. It's driven in all weathers, but not huge distances.

I went with just the two recommended coats. Now i've had a look at one of the web sites, I realise I did use the phosporous primer. Getting to the insides of some of the wishbones was a real pain though. If I had to do it again, I'd do it at the same time as changing suspension bushes and have the wishbones off onto the bench. I did pour into a pot, but just for conveniance, I used it all up. The weather can affect it - I wouldn't do it if the air was damp.
