Hope you can help as I am distraught after spending over £300.
My partner drives a 97 Seat Ibiza (AEX engine) or at least she did
until a week ago when she blew a hole in the side of the engine.
Anyway to cut a long story short. I was told by a scrappy that the 1.4 AEX Golf engine would fit my car however after spending the readies and buyong a new clutch found that the gearbox doesn't fit.The scrappy surprise surprise wont give me my money back and I amleft with a knackered Ibiza engine and a useless Golf engine.
Do you know if there is anything I can do to make the Golf engine fit i.e change the gearbox etc.
Appreciate any advice you can give

Never rely on what a scrappy tells you..Did you ask if there was a money back gaurantee?. As some give a 14 day. others give longer. But always ask..If they dont then dont buy from them.Cant help regards box.But would think it may be more trouble than its worth ie drive shafts may be different/gearbox mountings/ect??

Thanks Steve i think Ive learnt the hard way. I have now had to purchase another engine from a place in middleton the guy seems to know his stuff and he basically agreed woith you about driveshafts etc so I am gonna buy the right engine.
The annoying thing is the scrappy convinced me it would swap over but alas.
They say that I bought as seen and it was my responsibility to make sure it fitted.
Lesson learnt....

Try your local Trading Standards office. You described what you wanted. What you were supplied doesn't fit so the goods are not fit for purpose.
If it's a typical scrappy then the last thing he'll want is 'officialdom' crawling all over the place so he'll probably cave in.

I think that unlikely..Unless you ask for any warranty. As far as scrappy is concerned. They buy and sell...Parts.When you go to a scrap yard. you should know what you want. before going..anyone that thinks that a scrapy can give advice..Would suggest they go to a specialist yard..That deals with a specific car..or cars.Mixing parts is in most terms a no/no..If you wish to try I would not expect a breakers to give any advice..except if they know the vehicle/s as to what can and cannot be changed..Even then I would check everything out before going.

I've dealt with scrapyards on occasion over many years for parts such as headlights etc.
In every case those running them knew exactly what I needed/required and where to find it amongst their vast stock.
They also volunteered the information that if, by any chance, the part wasn't suitable or faulty I could return it for a swap or full refund.
