Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
£2550
Average condition:
£2210
Below average condition:
£1870
based on same model Polo that's done 40,000 miles.
Sounds like the person who offered you £1,200 is yanking your chain.

Shop around and go to several garages, it may cost you a few pounds in petrol and a bit of time but you will know the real value then. You shouldn't really be interested in the value of your Polo because its the cost to change thats important.

The problem is that it's a MINI, and the dealers know that anyone who buys a MINI has already decided to pay a premium and doesn't expect a discount or part exchange over-valuation, which amounts to the same thing.
That said, £1,200 is too low. I'm fairly sure you'd get comfortably more than this if you simply stuck the car in the local car auction, which is probably what the MINI dealer will be doing with it.
In short, try several MINI dealers - whilst they can't discount, there's no reason why they couldn't bid up to £2k or so if they could place the car in the trade, who would probably retail it for £3,000 or maybe more.
If you want to get the most money - perhaps £2,500 - then you can go down the route of a private sale or eBay auction.
However, with a MINI dealer you can't necessarily expect to get a strong valuation for your car, because they're not particularly known even for wanting to work hard to sell the ones they have as profit comes fairly easily to them anyway.

Have you done your 'final' negotiations & ordered the MINI ,yet??
If the dealer is only offering his first bid, not his LAST, you've still some distance to go.
How about trying for some extras, at no further cost? The options list is rather looooooooooooooonnnng, IIRC, from when we went shopping for Mrs V's new car. (Mx5 won, as I've mentioned before!!)

Yes i ordered the car in dec.I was told that i had to order the car then as i wanted it for the 1st march.I was told that i had to confirm my slot. They told me that they couldnt give me a price for my car until jan as the price would be different.I told them that i wasnt prepared to order the car if they were going to offer me a silly price. They assured me they would give me the going price and in nov i was told by them it was £2000-£2500.They had looked this up.So as you can imagine i feel they are trying to con me.Trouble is i havnt anything in writing. Thanks for all your help.Amanda

They told me that they couldnt give me a price formy car until jan as the price would be different.
This seems to be standard practice at MINI dealers - my brother in law recently bought a new MINI (ex demo) but still had to wait six weeks. They would give him a price "on the day", rather than at order for his M reg Audi 80, which i thought was odd.
He got £500 for it, so it wasn't all bad.
