Peugeot 306 'sticky' door handles - stokie
I've just acquired a 4 door M reg 306XND. Lift the for handle to open the door, and the handle stays in the 'up' position, i.e. hoizontal. All 4 behave in this way.
You have to manually push them down again.

Has anyone seen this problem? I've not taken a door trim off yet to investigate.

Thanks for any help

Has the past owner tried installing a 3rd party central locking system to this car?

Sounds like they have just seized and need lubrication I have had the same issue with a Mondeo. There will be a small gap visible when the handle is in the up position you could try lubricating through the gap.

Any fairly thick spray oil should be ok I would avoid WD40 as it does tend to dry out very quickly. It may take a number of attempts to solve the problem. If this fails then unfortunately a strip down may be on the cards.

Many thanks for the replies, the previous owner says it's never had central locking, I'll try the spray lube this evening.

Whether or not this is any use to you, I had a Fiesta and one day when I was opening the back door, I heard a big snap and the handle did exactly what yours are doing. Now I'm not sure whether this is any use primarily because, thinking about it, what are the chances of all 4 handles doing whatever mine did?

I'll shut up now.

My Mondeo drivere rear outer door handle has done this since November, basically it won't spring back, you have to do it manually to close the door. I'll live with it untill Spring!

i had the same problem on rear doors on my mondeo, tried all the usual 3in1, wd40 all were no good the best thing that cured the problem was some halfords rubber lubrication spray, usually used on suspension bushes. this sorted it out without stripping the door out to get to the mechanism, just sprayed from outside and clean up any overspray right away

Thanks Mondyman, I'll try that.

i had a similar problem with one door on my 309
Door handle came in 2 parts, linked with a steel rod which had rusted. I could not get WD40 or similar in the right spot, but when I took the handle off I managed to free it off within a couple of minutes.

WD40 has worked a treat, but Carl was right, you have to wait a few hours for it to work in. I'll try some more permanent lube to keep them free.

Thanks backroomers for excellent advice.
