seized sump nut update - Stu
Only because one of you guys asked for an update, I have to report that the mission has been accomplished.
I read with fear this morning some of the advice and tips posted by the on line experts. Fortunately nothing more was required than a bit of brute force. Once loosened, the high street tyre chain were able to complete the filter and Duckhams change for £10. Incredible value.
Thanks though for the interest.
Re: seized sump nut update - richard turpin
There is a lot of "negative" advice on this site. I asked what wheels I could get to fit my Godson's escort, and ALL the advice was negative. I think it's the English way. (I'm half frog)
As for the filter, you can get a lever thing with a sort of chain attached to it cheaply from any factor which will forever deal with filters. Easier than banging holes in it with a screwdriver.
Some negative advice. If the whole thing only cost you £10, you had better drain it out and start again as they must have put rubbish in it!!!!
Re: seized sump nut update - Doctor Dave
That's fascinating, Richard. Never come across it before.

Which half of you is frog, top or bottom??
Re: seized sump nut update - Dave
Which chain is it that does the oil and filter for 10 quid?

I can't do it myself for that!
Re: seized sump nut update - ladas are slow
national garages have an offer on, if you take the coupon thats in the daily mail newspaper (sorry about telling people about a rival newspaper), you only have to pay £10, and that includes duckhams QXL oil.
Negative advice...? - Andy
Richard

I, personally, disgree wholeheartedly with your statement that, "There is a lot of "negative" advice on this site".

I remember your post on alloy wheels vividly because I found the replies that you received incredibly informative. Whilst I realise that you requested specific information on which alloy wheels would fit your Godson's car, it should also be remembered that you concluded your post with, "Any help appreciated."

Because this forum is largely anonymous, by which I mean that few people actually know other people, it is difficult to assess how much relevant car knowledge any individual has, with several obvious exceptions, for example, David W. Imagine therefore, if you had received none of the "negative" safety advice, and you had bought your Godson some ill-fitting alloy wheels, causing him serious injury... The replies to your post simply taught me, and many others I am sure, that fitting alloy wheels is not just a matter of making sure the wheel nuts match up with the holes on the alloy wheels. If you were to ask the question again, next time you might simply want to include that, whilst you are aware of all of the safety issues, you would like some information on...

On a more general note, a large proportion of the posts on this web-site concern problems with cars. So, whilst the advice may appear negative in that it recommends certain costly repairs, that in no way means that it is unhelpful.

Richard, I do not share your point of view, but it is nothing personal.

Replies invited.

Yours

Andy
