Damage caused by speed humps - Roger Jones
A friend of mine has just had to have the rear springs in his VW camper van replaced after two years of use. The servicing garage -- specialists in this type of vehicle -- advise that the most likely cause of this rapid deterioration of genuine VW parts is road humps.

Does anyone else have hard evidence or expert opinion of this type? I've opened up a line with my local councillors about the road-hump issue and would be glad of more ammunition.

Your local council should have laid down a specification for the humps - height, depth etc.

If these have been exceeded by the contractor and missed by the council's check controls, you will have a good case.

A good example was in the Maghull area of Liverpool about two years ago when motorists were able to claim compensation from the contracters' insurance as the specifications were exceeded and the humps had to be redone.

Strangely enough, just found an HJ thread mentioning this particular case:

I think regardless of the specification of the humps these "traffic harming measures" are a menace and prematurely wrecking vehicles all over the country. A work colleague had his sump ripped off by a speed hump.
