Wifey wants a new car! - daveyjp
My wife has had a smart for the last four years, but she is now ready for a change. It's a second car but the replacement still needs to be small to fit on the drive. She is considering a Ford Ka or a VW Lupo/Seat Arosa - budget up to about £6,000. We've owned loads of Ford's and I am aware of the Ka's ancient engine technology, but any other opinions on her choices?

Hi, Ka is great to drive, if you like Fords how about a new Fiesta, perhaps pre reg.

The Ka is a little cracker - all the ride and handling dynamics of the Fiesta and yet seemingly just right for the fairer sex.

The engine is well proven, is lively enough for its purpose and the Ka will also be cheap to buy and run.

Or what about the convertible version....:-)

Ka is great to drive, and I don't have any complaints about the engine. In fact, I think it's rather good. (Ancient technology isn't necessarily a big problem. The spoon I use for my Weetabix is based on ancient technology, but does the job fine.)

IMHO the brakes on the Ka could be better, though.

'the fairer sex'!!

Blimey, I haven't heard that one for a while! Did you mean 'Women' by any chance?

Agree with you about the Ka, though. It is the true modern Mini.

I've just been looking around on my wife's behalf too, but she thinks the Ka is a little too small. Top contender at the moment is a Fiesta 1.4 Zetec with air con - best price I've found is £6845. Comes with CD player etc. UK supplied but pre-registered.

Yes, definitely consider the new Fiat Panda. I've had mine since March and would thoroughly recommend it!

The Kia Picanto has had rave reviews.

We were in a similar position six months ago, bought a Mazda 2. 3 years servicing thrown in with metallic for £7500. Bargain, and car is excellent.
