Pug 205 D 'rotodiesel' brass thing - Robert Fleming
Having gone over to the dark side, the new addition's engine leaks satan oil out of a brass thing on top of the injection pump, around the green plastic bit marked 'Rotodiesel'.

Any idea what this is (cut off solenoid, maybe?) and how much it is to replace. Temporary silicone botch helps, but I can't really see this as lasting solution.

Must say, I can see why people rave over French diesels. They really are good.

Your description does sound like the stop solenoid, which is about the size of a golf ball with a terminal on top. I suppose you might cure a leak by tightening it in the pump housing (there is an O-ring seal). If not, you should easily get a used one from a breaker for about £10-20. Sometimes they stick open or closed, so the engine will either not start or not stop.

If you think the XUD in your 205 is good, you want to try the newer HDi engines, they are even better!!
