Here's the list of prices:

See if you can find the car that's half price ...

There was a 53 plate (!) Vectra LS or Club with delivery miles on it for £7,995, down from £16k list.
Not such a spectacular bargain and I'd be nervous about a car that had been standing for a year or more but actually a little under half price, so not actually misleading either.

So what price for this car would you consider to be a spectacular bargain? Is it normal for one of these cars to lose so much money in such a short time?
|
If having the lowest possible mileage on the car is important then I suppose it is spectacular.
There are quite a few sub £8k 53 plate Vectra LSs with small (sub 10k) mileages though.
Most of the other deals were achievable elsewhere, though they were competitive.

Hello
My Mothers Corsa sxi has done 8k miles in 2 years and that is journeys longer than 5 miles each way.

Of course, the people that bought cars from them at the full list price in the last week or two will now be kicking themselves... ;)

someone walked it to hyundai ryders just before christmas and paid list price on a hyundai getz.
fools still exist HJ.

by virtue of them:
a) paying list price
or
b) buying a Hyundai Getz
???

Just bought a new 54 plate Vectra 3.2 GSI for £14,750 off Thurlby Motors, is this a good deal HJ? Should have asked this before I bought it but impulse buying is my middle name. The Octavia RS turbo took a back seat when I saw the engine specs of this for a couple of gwand more. Salesman was business like and helpfull and didn't have a degree in B.S.

Good car to drive the 3.2. However, I hope your prepared foe some serious fuel bills. Our fleet averages around 140 miles on a full tank (although I will admit that's at full throttle most of the time.) On the plus side, they have proved very reliable and very fast.
|
Good to hear I got a good deal, although I'm not particularly big, 5'11, I did want a bigger car after driving a Saxo for 6 years. I'm not bothered about the fuel consumption as I don't do many miles, under 10k per year, I bought it mainly for driving pleasure. Pick it up on Saturday, I'll let you know my impressions.
|
Do you still have the saxo?

How is it practical to drive a car like that at full throttle most of the time? Not within speed limits, that's for sure!
|
I almost forgot to add, with a 13.4 gallon tank, 140 miles on a full tank is only just over 10mpg. Vauxhall's official figures quote around 20mpg for urban driving and around 28mpg for the combined cycle.
I would have thought that whoever manages this fleet of cars would have been asking some questions by now.
|
Machika, MLC is a traffic police officer and so driving at full throttle outside the speed limits is part of his job.

Even so, full throttle for most of the time?

Well in MLC's case, something along the lines of "You have the right to remain silent, anything you say will be taken down and may be used against you in a court of law"

I travelled from Oxford to Thurlby Motors with my father for this sale. He got a Sept 03 Vectra 1.8 LS with Alloys and only 40 miles for £7995. This was a saving of £8000 from new and over £1000 on similar age but much higher mileage vehicles.
The saleswoman was excellent, let us go off on our own for a test drive and the sale was concluded in less than 30 minutes.
Certainly no BS.....
Well Done Thurby Motors

Sounds a good deal, but did they give any reason to as why the car has only done 40 miles in 15 months?

I still have the saxo Hugo, FSH, yours for £2500. I'll list specs and dinks if you like. (remove if against rules).

In response to the queries. I'm a Divisional traffic/fast response/ARV driver. With one car covering (after midnight) covering three towns, countless villages and a massive rural area, we have to cover large distances quickly. As an aside. We've just got a 3 ltr V6 diesel on trial. Initial impressions are quite good, will give a fuller update when I've driven it more.
|
I was going to suggest that a diesel might make more economic sense.

Post full details in the Classified section of this site. I'll have a look there.
Thanks

To be honest Hugo, there's a cracking looking silver Saxo VTR on the auto trader website for £2550 from Rob Waring (Trade) in the midlands with 61k on the clock, looks unmarked. Mine although looked after mechanicaly isn't mint. As you can probably tell from my posts, I think simple is best and I'll probably trade it in for less just so I don't have to get someone to lift me up to Thurlby. I don't have the patience for selling, just buying!
|
Went up to collect it today, have gone from a 6 year old 1.6, 90bhp Saxo VTR to a new 3.2 V6 24V Quadcam Vectra GSI with over 200bhp. The drive from Thurlby to Birmingham was fun to say the least.
First impressions are that it is a cracking car although I don't have much experience of new cars. With you eyes shut (not literaly) I can't see how you can tell the difference between a beemer or a merc costing twice as much than other modern cars from mass producers. Why spend the extra? Buy a better house or go on another holiday is what I'd do if I was loaded.
Still we'll see how it beds in. By the way, you just can't beat the feeling of a new car can you? It's great.

Patrick, I have the 2.0T SRi "Edition 100" and love it. How do you find the ride on yours (presume it will have lowered suspension and 17" or 18" rims)
Know what you mean about the quality - I am particularly pleased with the build quality of mine.
|
The ride seems fine, although I haven't thrown it around yet. It does have lowered suspension and 17" rims.
