Citreon Berlingo Multispace Rear Seats - Citreon
Hi i have a Citreon Multispace.
I put the rear seat down and now it will not come back up. It seems as if the centre seat belt is jamed,
Anyone else had this problem.
If so how did you fix it

I've not had the problem but have heard of it before on another board. Can't post a link because the board changed host and early posts disappeared. Think that those who suffered the prob went back to dealer for a solution - it is/was a known problem - they might deal sympathetically with you even if out of warranty. You could post a question on

if there is no further response here.

We've had a similar problem with ours, but it may not be the same as your problem. Our problem was nothing to do with the seatbelt, but with a catch at the back of the seat - or rather with one half of the seat, because the other half went up and down OK.

The dealer sorted it in seconds, and if I had a modicum of technical skill, I probably would have been able to as well.

Hope this helps

Hi there

This has happened to me. The previous answers to this thread were to get the dealer to fix it. But it's meant to take seconds if you know what you're doing. Has anyone successfully fixed this themselves, as my dealer has a two week wait?

Thanks for any help.

I have just fixed this in my 2002/3 Berlingo.

The problem happens because the seat belt retracts too far when the seat is folded. It's necessary to unbolt the seat in some way to give extra slack while at the same time having the rear part of the seat upright. This will allow the inertia reel to unlock and give out belt again. I was lucky - my seat still went into the upright position, and so I was able to get enough slack without unbolting the entire seat, as follows:

1: Make sure the belt can't retract any further, by wrapping it around something (if possible) or putting some kind of clip on it.

2: Fold up the single seat, so it's out of the way.

3: Remove the plastic covers at the sides of the seat where the two parts join. (NB Not all the screws are the same - keep track!) These cover two T-50 bolts that form the hingle of the upper and lower parts of the seat.

4: Undo the two T-50 bolts. NB these two bolts are different. Keep track!

5. With the lower part of the seat in the normal position (i.e. horizontal), move the now loose upper part of the seat back and down (and a little bit sideways) so that it is not sitting just behind the lower part of the seat, and is vertical.

6: Carefully, with the slack that has now been created, allow a small amount of seat belt back into the vertical seat back, to unlock the intertial reel. You should now be able to draw out the seat belt.

7. Carefully wrapping the excess around a headrest, to make sure it doesn't all get drawn back in again, re-assemble the seat.

NB I also unhooked the string/plastic combo that lifts the seat latches when the back of the seat is folded. I don't think this was actually necessary, but I might be mistaken.

It's a bit fiddly, and I found the T-50s very stiff, but not too bad all in all. Best of luck to anyone with this problem.
