i have got a 97 citroen xantia and am looking to put a new stereo in, only problem is that the current stereo is set behind panelling, can anyone tell how i would go about fitting a new stereo or would i need to ask a professional
cheers

Should be straightforward. You can get fascia adapters ( www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default.php?cPath=376 ) which will blank out any gaps etc for non standard stereos. Need to make sure anything you replace it with is compatible with the steering wheel/stalk controls (if it has them).

cheers, any idea if id have to cut the paneling or would it be something that unscrews

I'd guess it would just pop off with some gentle persuasion but I'd stress this needs to be gentle given that french plastics are brittle at the best of times. The Radio should come out with a basic radio removal tool (or a couple of wire coat hangers!).

The book says;
1 Remove ash tray
2 Remove the two screws thus revealed
3 Release the two recuring clips in the gap above the heater air direction slide and the surround will pull free.
4 The radio unit is held in with one screw each side.
I haven't tried it but it looks logical. It also says disconnect the battery.
Any plastic bits on anything will break if you just prise them about without watching what you are doing. The best car make for breaking plastic bits has to be Rover.

'The best car make for breaking plastic bits has to be Rover.'
Could be right-I don't know, but I do agree that the worst car make for breaking plastic bits is Citroen.
