Can anyone tell me what an ASR button in place of a traction control, on the Mark IV means???

Probably much the same as the ESP button on my Passat.

It stands for Anti-Slip Regulation and just another name for traction control.

You can switch it off but it will be enabled by default next time you start the engine.
