Thanks for changing it so that we don't have to go somewhere else to actually vote.

I was getting all excited that everyone else pays the same as me, then I realised I was the only person to have voted. Oops!

Good subject for a poll, but it really needs to include the insurance specification (i.e. TP only, TPFT, comprehensive, amount of excess, any driver or insured only or named drivers, protected NCD etc.) for it to be totally meaningful. However, I'm not sure how you could make a poll this comprehensive ~ if you'll pardon the pun. Alternatively, what about a separate poll regarding the insurance specification?

Including insurance group, plus anything else I have forgotten.

Those who stated that their insurance is £901 plus must look at the poll and envy the majority of us who are in the low insurance bracket.

Don't.

It's because we have reached the age where car insurance is the other thing that doesn't go up very much these days.

Those of us with high premiums can sometimes blame the nature of the cars we chose, though. And no, those cars are not replacements for TS's complaint!

Many of the people who have clciked on high annual premiums may of course have Class 1 Business Use included in their insurance as I do.

Those of you who drive their vehicles BETWEEN places of work and not just TO one single permanent place of work and only have SDP insurance should of course click the "I don't bother with insurance" button, as you are not insured!

Class 1 Business adds nothing to my insurance premiums - may be the cars I drive (Mondeo & Cavalier) or the companies I use (Direct Line and Admiral) but that it the case.

Very unusual for CLass 1 to be an additional premium. Class 3 (commercial travelling) or Hire and Reward will do scary things to your insurance, but if you're paying over the odds for Class 1, then best you have a good look around next renewal.

You are basically right, but it isn't that simple. Pure SD&P doesn't even cover commuting - hence the normal definition being S,D&P including to and from one permanent blah blah blah.

However, virtually all composites include class 1 business use free of charge. Essentially the difference between class 1 and class 3 is whether or not you travel by appointment.

Its got sufficiently foggy these days that you pretty much need to read each individual certificate and relevant endorsements.

It is also not really correct to say that you wouldn't be insured. It is not possible to deny third party liability and insurers will have to pay. Since there is a breach of policy Ts&Cs they make seek recovery but insofar as the law is concerned you are legally insured.

Even in the most extreme where they decided to have a go at fraud, intent, etc. etc. you still would not be rendered uninsured restrospectively.

My policy with Direct Line is SDP, and travel to/from work. I sometimes have to work in another location, and upon checking with DL they said that my policy covers me.

Adding business use (i.e. travel for business purposes other than cold-calling, carrying samples and hire & reward) added nothing to my premium for the 911. So I have it - and clients in the automotive field seem to like it.

DD - DL may regard your different location as a temporary change to the place of work. Would it be different if your employers asked you to visit a client/customer's premises?

Apparanetly not. The only thing DL said that won't be insured is any equipment belonging to the employer. The employer covers that anyway.

However, I tend not to use my own car so much these days if I can help it, too much paperpushing required to claim petrol allowance. I *try* and use the pool car/van if it's available.

Well!

Modern classic, comprehensive. three mature and claim free drivers named, <3,000 miles per year (and less than 1,000 in fact).......between £501 and £700.
I reckon they're on a good thing!
