The working area of my quick clear windscreen has been reducing over the past year such that now only about 20% of the elements work.
Is there anything that can be done or is it a new winscreen job?
It's a Oct 2000 Mondeo

I too wouldn't mind someone's comments on this. It works but a few elements here and there don't.

There is no way to fix the faulty wires I'm afraid. It's either live with it or replace the screen.

I was told the same, no way of repairing when lots of the individual heating element wires have failed, needs replacing.
I'd part with my insurance windscreen excess and be done with it, most windscreen companies don't seem fussed whether screen is actually 'damaged' or not, they just want the business. You can't do without it working properly at this time of year!

Just make sure that you are going to get a genuine replacement screen before you commit yourself ~ see my earlier thread "Replacement windscreen for Focus".

Are faulty heated screens actually covered by the insurance? I've got two small chips in mine and, annoyingly, the drivers side of the heated screen is duff.
I assumed they'd just repair the chips and leave me with the dodgy heated screen.

Michael, I've had a couple of quickclear screens replaced on my insurance over last few years. I was upfront with glass company about why I wanted a new screen and on both occasions the screen did have small chips which wouldn't warrant replacement but they agreed to change the whole screen anyway. They just put it through as damaged beyond repair or something along those lines.

Surely I have to go through my insurance company first though so I don't get an opportunity to discuss it with the glass company?
|
Actually just noticed all the details about getting my windscreen replaced are all contact details for RAC Autowindscreens anyway..
|
I've always just checked with Autoglass that they deal with who i'm insured with at the time, they do the rest.
If you use Autoglass you should get an OE screen too.

Just read through my policy and it says if I don't use my insurers Glass Helpline they'll only pay £50 of the claim.
|
I can't say I've ever read up on that with my insurance, I'll count myself lucky that I've not been stung with a bill then.
Seems odd that they hold you to just one company.
Can I ask who you're insured with?

I read that as " call the insurers helpline that deals with windscreens." They will then approve who does the work.

Henry, Michael has stated that his insurance are pointing him towards RAC Auto Windscreens.
I'm curious as to who he is insured with as I've always let the glass company do the paperwork side of things. I have never been told that the glass company don't deal with any companies I've been insured with.

Whoops. Thanks PP for pointing that out.
I will check what my insurance co specify as I have a quick clear windscreen too.

I've found in yesterday mornings frost that a few parts of the heating element have stopped working right in my eyeline on my Mondeo screen, they're certainly not the most reliable piece of kit.

I'm with Admiral - in my policy I have a thing which tells me I must go through their glass helpline for full windscreen cover, but I also got a little leaflet with my documents saying I can save my excess by getting a free repair, with a www.racautowindscreens.com URL on the leaflet..
