It might help if you actually mention the problem you're having.

At the moment your question tis a bit vague.

Yea, sorry about that Dave, i was just putting feelers out to see if i might get a response.

i have just put a brand new battery on the car and left it standing for a couple of days. I went out to start it last night and it was totally dead. I was originally told that there was a known problem with the radios staying on in the background although on the display it looked as though it was off. A peugeot master technician fitted a diode to one of the radio wires. I still had the problem so he fitted a diode to another wire. Still no joy, i thought it might have been the dead locking solenoid but proved that not to be the case. There clearly seems to be a leakage of power somewhere, it regularly goes dead after 2 days. I had been jump starting it until someone told me i was risking blowing up the computer.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

MM

What was the reason for the brand new battery, Mike? Similar previous symptoms?
Lots of threads on similar problems. Usual technique is to take earth strap from battery and attach milliameter from battery earth pole to car body, then disconnect fuses to see how discharge varies. Have to be careful on modern cars you don't lose ignition settings and radio etc, and on multiplex wiring almost anything else. Very simple technique for an autoelectrician though, and easier than attaching diodes!
Sure the boot light isn't on?

Hi Crinkly.
I had a new battery cos i thought that's what it was. I have tried checking out the boot light along with other stuff like interior lights and stuff and nothing like that has been left on.

Did the Pug guy test the alternator?

Mike,

Another thing to check - Does your vehicle have vanity mirror lights in the visors. I have know vehicles were the lights stay on even when the visors are shut, thus draining the battery.

Additionally Glove box, foot well lights, door puddle lamps etc...

Easy way to check is touch the visors as they will be very hot.

Just a thought

I have tried checking out those things and as far as i can tell nothing is stopping on.

Hi Dave.

The guy did put various meters across the battery and i think he checked the alternator too. He checked the charging rate and said he thought it was ok.

I put the new battery on because i had it checked by a tyre and battery place and they said that one of the cells was abit dodgy and fizzing abit. I thought the battery might have been the problem. The battery place is local and pretty trustworthy, i know he wouldn't have sold me a new battery if the car didn't need it.

I stick with what I said on 24th. However, if the previous battery didn't have this problem (but was diagnosed as weak), and the problem started after the new battery was fitted, perhaps the first thing should be to check the new battery with a high discharge meter.
Not the first time a new battery has been faulty.

Thanks to all you guys for your suggestions. I have checked out the vanity mirror lights and they are not hot, i still have to check the boot light but i think i checked that before. Will check it again though. The footwell lights don't stay on. Thanks for the idea about the new battery Crinkly but the problem was there before i changed it. I thought that it might be as simple as putting a new one on. Like your idea though about the milliameter, will give that a go and let you know.

Hi Crinkly.

You might be right with what you said about the new battery. I let Simon Bailes (main dealer) have a crack at finding the problem. They had it for 4 days, couldn't find a thing although it did go flat on them. They reckoned it was the battery. I went back to the place i got it from, bloke checked the charging rate with engine running, all was fine. I switched engine off and he checked all the cells, he reckoned they were all dead so guy put me another new battery on. I'm pleased to tell you so far all is good.
