Seems a long way round to me, ok if your're not on a hurry though.

That's what i am thinking , but having been at the NEC the week before last i can safely say that up to the NEC the roads are pretty clear. Was wondering if their is any ongoing roadworks ETC that might slow me down.

M42/M6? That's an awfully long route to get to Cambridge. What's wrong with M5 / M4 / M25 / M11? Should be okay going up at 1200, might be a bit of a problem coming back at 0800 though.

I would have thought A303/M3/M25/M11

From Bath, i would have the same dilemma, but probably end up with M4 M25 M11.

I did once go the M5, M42, M6, A14, and it took roughly 20 minutes longer. But it was a lot less busy. And prettier. The M6/A14 junction is odd though. The north bit of the M25 always seems to be too busy, on the limited occasions i've been on it.

Colleagues who live in Bristol always go north and across - they reckon it's far simpler.

But Yeovil 35 miles or so South of Bristol/Bath and no easy route to go North - I would think about an hour to the M4.

Except in high summer the A303 is a pretty good road and anyway as he knows the way to Heathrow he knows the best way to M25.

I would have thought A303/M3/M25/M11

from the M25 I use the A1M to Baldock and then the A505 to Royston.
The A10 would then take you to Cambridge.
I am asuming the 10 miles on the A10 is OK as I have not used it as I use the A505/A11 to get East of Cambridge.

I prefer this route instead of the M11

Any info on the state of roadworks etc on the M11 these days?

I live Huntingdon way and, when visiting the West Country, have always used A14, M6, M42, M5 route. Works a treat. I've always found the M4 an interminable bore.
