Does anyone have experience of connecting an iPod to a car stereo system. I've seen those tape adapters, but I wanted to know if there is a more suitable way of connecting it.
I know for example BMW offer connection kits as an option on new models.
Thanks

Out of the choice between an itrip (from ebay) or a cassette adapter what would you recommend?
|
The iTrip is very good (clear easy to use, no extra cables) but illegal in the UK. Can't really see how you'd get nicked for using it, but it's illegal nonetheless.
Car adapter isn't bad, but you're better off with an iTrip, assuming you don't live in the UK, or at least don't use it there.

Smart make an i-pod carrier and wire-in kit for the smart and derivatives which works incredibly well, plugs into back of a Grudig head unit no problem. Also have a one of the carriers which tunes into a spare station on the tuner, this is with a Sony head unit, didn't know they were illegal and its not such an elegant solution as it is meant to plug into a cigarette lighter and has enough extensions to make it look silly, using an i-pod instead of cd changer is excellent except you have to remember to take it with you.

Will somebody please tell this 58 year old what an i-pod is?

As I stated in one of the attached links you do not need to use I Trip there is an alternative identified in the detail I have attached below.
"I have a 20GB IPOD and have recently purchased a CarDock FM. It allows the Ipod to link to the Stereo through the FM band allowing you to play your music through the stereo. You then use your stereo to control volume, bass, treble etc...
It plugs into the power / lighter socket, so it also powers the Ipod. It takes 30secs to set up and is priceless on long journeys as I have 3000 songs downloaded from my CD collection.
Just hit play and it will play (current time estimate from the Ipod is 3 days of music)
The CarDock costs appox £50 and is worth every penny."

Sounds like this works like the iTrip - be careful of these being illegal to use in the UK!!

Your honour, it's a gadget for the sort of people who listen to the Beatles (which your honour asked about earlier) ;-)
Sorry, couldn't resist. It's a digital music player, kinda like a much smaller walkman which stores as much music as 50 CDs. See www.apple.com/ipod/
