Rover 416 Tourer - Spanner
My dad has owned his 1995 Rover 416 Tourer from new. As he had bought it just before retirement, it has only covered 85,000 miles and is regularly serviced. Over the last year he has noticed a sharp drop in economy from the average 43mpg he was originally getting to about 30mpg. I have checked to see if the brakes are binding but all is okay. The air filter is clean and it barely uses oil between services. There is no roof rack or tools being carried around either.
Any ideas as to what is causing the sudden increase in consumption?

Thanks in advance

Slightly surprised your dad managed 43mpg..Estate is heavier than hatch/salloon. I only know of 2 people that had one.None achieved this figure..The 30 to 35 is more like it.2.0 litre Which. I had ie GSI was in region of 20/25. So personaly dont think you have a problem
