Have decided to get rid of the Clio, a friend who knows more about these things will put it through auction for me.
Question is, what happens to the V5? Do I fill it in with transfer to dealer, or wait until someone buys its and then fill in their details. Or do the auction people do that?
Any advice much appreciated

You hand it in to the auction, with your entry form, it'd be hard to sell, without it.
They inform DVLA for you, so you'll not know who's bought it,anyway.
Just keep a note of the day you left it at the sale, so you know any fines etc, that appear after you've sold it are DEFINITELY not yours!!

BCA auctions will point blank refuse to hand over the V5 to the buyer unless they know him as a trader - they will send it straight to DVLA instead. Not all auctions do this however - I have had notices from DVLA regarding cars I've put through smaller auctions having been seen used without roadtax after the day of the sale and it's a pain having to write and tell them each time.

Thanks for that - didn't know BCA adopted that policy. (Their main competitor gives the V5 to the buyer either way as far as I know).

Just having received my brand new UK Registration Certificate (4 page document) seems quite clear completion of Section 9 (the declaration) must be completed by the seller and sent to DVLA.
What I cannot see is the position which would arise if the vehicle were not sold at auction and subsequently taken back by the seller.
Enlightment anyone? Phil I
