Hi,
Im considering buying an Alpha 156 2.4 JTD wagon at the moment, and was wondering if anyone has had any experience (good or bad) of these diesels.
I know Alphas have a reputation for being niggly cars, but are the newer models??
Grazi!

Well for a start its Alfa!
MIne is a 2000X 2.4 JTD SW 140BHP, 2 owner brought 15 months ago with 37K miles and now has 88K miles all hard driven. Aside from servicing at every 12K its had 4 x new tyres, a turbo, new rear suspension link & a new wishbone and 2 hub bushes all at main dealers. I keep full details of my cars and currently assuming its worth £ 5K its cost 29P per mile to date.
Find a good dealer and they're worth their weight in gold. To be frank the wishbone and bushes weren't needed for its MOT but the creaking over speed humps locally was driving me nuts.
Still goes like brown stuff off a shovel uses about 1/3 litre of oil between services & does between 38-43MPG depending on speed driven. Generally I don't get overtaken very often ;-)
Niggles very few and many impressed passengers some of whom own suposedly upmarket German models. Most of which I tend to regularly overtake....
Basically would I buy another tomorrow definitely, if I had the money to spend on a new one definitely! Nowt else even comes close in my view.

I did 500 miles in a JTD 2.4 140 saloon approx 12 months ago, it was noticably less gutsy at low revs than my TDCi 130 Mondeo however it was still pretty sporty in character, burbly exhaust note, lovely hand stiched leather etc etc. Reckon I could live with one.
