My wife`s A4 TDI was a company car and has been run on Quantum Synta Gold oil. Would Magnatec GTD be an ok replacement?

Is the A4 a PD engine or older TDi, either way though, wouldn,t have thought Magnatec is suitable, especially if its a PD engine which require specific stuff

It`s a TDI, not a PDI. V reg, 90bhp. The back of the Magnatec container does say suitable for cars needing VW 505.00 spec which is correct, but it does not say wether it is fully synthetic or not.

Any good quality diesel specific oil to specification 505.00 willl be suitable. It's irrelevant whether you use synthetic or semi synthetic (others will argue differently).
Change the oil and filter at 10,000 miles or 1 year. If the car is used for lots of short journeys where it doesn't really get hot consider changing at 5,000 miles.

not enough info in your question, but oil is relatively cheap.
if you are planning diy, why not take it instead to kwik-fit or national, and choose their fully synthetic option.

as for magnatec and synthetic - again a forum search will bring up previous notes on this.

The Quantum Synta Gold is a fully synthetic 5w-40 and if you ask
for discount at VW it will cost about £23 which isn't much more than the semi-synthetic Magnatec.

You could buy Magnatec or very similar from 'other' places at half that cost!
