Golf/Touran GPS Navigation - Dabby
Has anyone here got a Touran or Golf with the factory fitted 6.5" colour GPS navigation system? I think it's the same system in each car.

I'm thinking of adding it as an option but I can find little or no information about it anywhere...

So, if there's anyone knowledgeable I'd be interested for some feedback.

Cheers

I bought a Touran Sport TDi with the aforementioned Sat Nav. At the time I was also considering the Grand Scenic but it was only available with a voice-only sat nav so that was the final clincher.

I am very pleased with the system which has guided me faithfully over the past 11,000 miles! It is made by Blaupunkt and based on their Pilot DX system. The map is clear, with great features such as autozoom and choice of travel or north facing orientation. However, the best thing by far is the use of the multi-function display between the speedo and rev counter as a secondary display to show the driver the information he needs i.e. which exit to take at the roundabout, the name of the next road as well as distance travelled and estimated time of arrival.

I have found it very easy to program, using either Town or Postcode > Street > House No. The directions are very clear and the voice is polite "Please turn next left"!

All in all, a good system, which as with other factory-fitted systems uses the ABS sensors and an in-built compass to supplement GPS information so it continues to work even when the GPS signal is temporarily lost.

AutoExpress are currently running an identical Touran to mine on long term test. However, they forget to also order the 6-CD autochanger (very conveniently and neatlly mounted under the front arm rest) and then became frustrated as the only way to play a CD is by ejecting the Navigation CD!

It also sounds great on both CD and radio, as a top-end Blaupunkt should.

Needless to say, HonestJohn gave full details when he reviewed the Mark V Golf!

My only disappointment is that it isn't DVD based. Apparently the DVD systems are a little faster to respond; the new Audi A6 has got a DVD system but all the VW released last year Touran/Golf V/A3/Toureg seem to have the same system as mine.

I've got one in my Honda CRV - similar system - wouldnt do without it now. Having done 20K miles, its been invaluable. Its DVD based so its fairly fast - only quibble is searching for post codes - it only goes for the first 4 charactors ie RG27 2XX, rather then full post code and then house number.

Nice big screen, covers all of Europe - full marks.
