See the news update "***Policy Change: Ending Listings Early***" on Ebay. Basically they are trying to stamp out the common practice of sellers cancelling all bids and ending the auction in the last few minutes. Starting next week cancellations in the last 12 hours will not be allowed (if there are bids).
This will have quite an impact on many Ebay car auctions.....

sellers cancelling all bids and ending the auction in the last few minutes.
Why would you do that?

Why indeed? I can see why a seller would end an auction early if they get an offer they can't refuse, especially with something like a car.
In my (limited) experience the last few minutes of an auction are when prices can become silly if several competing bidders get carried away. This works very much in the seller's favour so I can't see why anyone would want to end an auction at that stage.

They won't pay to have a reserve and if it doesn't go high enough they just cancell the auction.

Aprilia,
Many thanks for drawing our attention to this significant change in Ebay policy.
Talking of Ebay, members of the BR might be interested to have a quick look at the following item currently being offered:

I've absolutely no idea if this is genuine.
It would be motoring related if you went there by car!

Somebody has bid almost £600!!!
It's got to be a TV company making cheap programmes for satellite.

This wedding certainly seems to have created some interest with over 600,000 viewers on ebay. From the sound of it I would certainly not want to go, let alone pay to go. If you had to go would a nodding dog be a suitable present?

At least she's likely to be faithful. Even if you do have to put up with all the sticks that are brought back.

Having sold and bought cars in the last week via e-bay and saved a packet, I can only recommend it!

Look at some of the bids that have been cancelled, the highest was £10,000,000!!!!

MOTORING LINK: look at his feedback and you can tell that he drives a Freelander with burr walnut gearnob and handbrake, and two extra cupholders. What an easy way to make seven grand.

£760?
I am baffled. I might pay money not to have to attend a wedding!
|
If you look carefully at the bid history , all bids over £380ish have bidders with 2 or fewer +ve feedback.
Chances are they will renege on the bid:(and then start again with a new ebay name)
Seems to happen a lot on cars: hence the "no bids from 5 feedback or lower etc" rules

There is a department at eBay, staffed by people on huge salaries, whose sole function is to find out what is working well and accepted as such by eBayers - and then CHANGE IT for the worse
