In her shoes I would definitely beseeking some legal advice about suing the donkey off the police

And yet someone dumps a car outside our house, no tax and probably MOT judging by the state of it, and they don't want to know. Probably cause they knew that they wouldn't be able to get £12 a day from the owner! At least the parking sharks, sorry attendants, realised something wasn't right with it after putting about 2 weeks worth of tickets on it!
|
I don't agree that is was harsh to treat that girl that way.
I have reported undamaged adn legal cars parked outside my house, if they have not moved for a few days and I don't recognise them as being local. They could have been the subject of a car jacking.
If she went on holiday, why not park outside her own home or at the airport like the rest of us do. Why did she dump it away from her house?

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Espada - I was thinkign the exact same thing! So some poor sucker has a Saxo parked outside their house for a week?

Yup, definately some poor sucker. I was thinking perhaps it was on an industrial estate or somewhere no-one would notice, but a quick search on royalmail.com reveals the street has house numbers not business names (bar two pubs). I want to know what made her street so inaccessible that she couldn't park her car there during the week, where neighbours or a friend could keep an eye on it! Afterall, she drives it home from work, doesn't she?

Surely she can park where she wants to within reason providing it's legal and the vehicle is taxed & insured and not blocking anyone's access?
I don't blame the householder for advising the police and they are entitled, if not obliged, to investigate but to have towed it away and charge her for removal and storage is downright cheek and probably illegal.
What right do they have to remove the vehicle?
What if you went on holiday and a spiteful neighbour reported your new car as being "dumped" outside of their house and the police removed it? Would you be happy to cough up? (Yes they should have done a PNC check and contacted the owner or tried to but did they?)
I'd definitely be looking for rfund and compensation.
Was this a good use of police resources?

I can think of a few situations where a car could be left on a street for a few days, away from a person's home. Visiting friends for example. Is one's car then fair game for the police to tow it away, if one of the friend's neigbours reports it as being suspicious?
|
Pity our local police aren't so 'efficient'. We have an untaxed and unroadworthy car on our street which a neighbour has reported three times - it's still there.

I used to live in the centre of Rochester. There were double yellow lines or parking bays close by (residents and/or 2 hour limit). The parking wardens only used to come once or twice a week, so many people used to get away with parking longer (not any longer!). Regularly we used to have cars dumped and it took weeks to get them removed.
Well the day I put my house on the market, a car was dumped right outside my front door - half on the pavement over the double yellow lines. The Police and Council did not want know.
At 3 am my wife gave me a nudge as she heard a noise outside. When I investigated, someone was trying to steal the dumped car (the drivers window had been left open). He could not get the car started. I grabbed my video camera and started filming him and my wife phoned the Police.
Surprise, surprise the Police turned up within 10 minutes and arrested the man. Best of all the Police had the car towed away as "evidence", even though they knew it had been dumped. We were later told that there was no way the car would ever start as it had no coil.
So the dumped car was moved within 12 hours - is that a record?

:-O
No actually, even after nearly three years living here I can't think of a good word to say about it. Apart from the fact that Tettenhall is supposed to be one of the 'Nice' bits... if you don't count people being stabbed there last year and the alleged shark in the duck pond!
(But surely BlueHaddock, aren't you from Telford? Glass houses and stones spring to mind!)
It must be a Wolverhampton thing though - I park my car at my nan's when I go away, to ensure it still has wheels on it when I get back!

Yes i am from telford - but hey it's better than wolvo!
