Cam belt or chain? W Reg Corsa SXi - holly1
Can anyone tell me if my car has a cam belt or chain fitted? The handbook mentions neither, but the Haynes manual mentions both types. A work colleague suggested Vauxhall swapped from the belts to chains but is not too sure about the date.

Its a 1.2 16v 2000 X reg (but is still the W reg model - thats why I say W reg).

Thanks

I believe that the 1.2 Corsa engine swapped to a chain driven cam with the move to the 'latest shape' cars - usually Y registration and onwards. A 2000 Corsa is the previous model and will, I reckon, have the belt driven cam. So, it's 4year/40,000 mile belt changes under vauxhall's latest recommendations.

According to HJ's CBCB, the 1.2 litre engines are made by Susuki, and are camchain for both the pre 2000 models and later models.

I saw that note in the CBCB, but also had a look at another web site it suggests that the SXi cars have a chain cam unlike the other 1.2 16v engines of the same age.

Its going into the garage who sold it to me next week because its now on 47000 and no one seems to know if/when the cambelt was replaced. As its a Ford garage I don't think they know much about Vauxhalls (given my experience to date) so want to make sure I have all the facts before it goes in.
