Hello,
The following questions relate to a 1995 Passat 1.9 Estate.
Fitstly, is the correct name for the tailgate struts, "tailgate gas struts"?
Secondly, can anyone give me a ballpark figure for a new tailgate gas strut? (I've had a quote of around £25 for 2nd hand, and I wondered how that might compare to new)
Kind regards,

Because gas struts tend to lose gas with age, I would be wary of buying second-hand ones. If the ebay ones are original 1995 struts, they might not be in much better condition than your existing struts.
As spikeyhead says ...
German Swedish French £9.75 + vat + p&p each

Search for "strut"
I hope the ebay price was for a pair!

Also try Eurocarparts - I got a pair of OEM (I believe) gas tailgate struts for my Volvo 940 estate from them for about £23 not that long ago. Don't use them now I've got a Mazda but everything I ever bought from that company was good quality and very reasonably priced. HTH.
