anyone ever used these bulbs? the lights on my audi a6 are not that bright - ive tried various bulbs from osram etc. wondered if any of you guys had experience of using these. Apparently there not legal for road use....

Illegal for road use probably means they aren't 'e' marked.

A6? Usually pretty good lights IMO - what do the lamps look like? Relfectors tarnished at all?

Philips Rally bulbs are rated between 80 and 100 watts. I think the maximum allowed is 55 watts for legal dipped beam (not sure what the limit is, if any, for full beam).

So you will be pushing more amps/watts etc than designed through your wiring, switches, relays and fuses with potential problems. The extra heat may also damage plastic headlamp glasses. And the bulbs don't last long (I've read about 100 hours).

Other non-legal lights are discussed in a recent Honest John thread www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=25...0 - follow Stuartli's links.

On my mk2/3 Golfs, for a small improvement in headlight output, I have always fitted an extra earth (-) wire direct from the headlight backplate to the battery. An inline multimeter shows it carries about 1.5 amps.
