How about this device for anyone who feels a big 4X4 isn't quite imposing enough for commuting: www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=223&Overide=1 (they've got 50 in stock, so form an orderly queue)
... or if you fear you might have offended some heavy-duty people, try this more subtle vehicle: www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=296&Overide=1 (only five left, so make haste ...)

Hmmm, £7500+VAT for pre 2000 Omega?
As for the tank i'll take 3 please, on easyterms of course...

Easy terms? Is that really necessary?
Once you've got the tank in your possession, the lenders might have difficulty enforcing their terms :)
But it's got to be just the trick for the school run. No more worries about finding a parking space ...

I could have used that Omega the night I nearly got shot in Kenya by carjackers!

By following the links which Imagos posted, in the hope that I might see something like a weird Range-Rovery-based vehicle I saw years ago. It was kinda like a Range-Rover pickup (ex-MoD), on which the purchaser had built a wooden-framed top, complete with lathe-turned curly-wurly beams and über-kitsch curtains.
No sign of anything like that chassis, but the armoured vehicles seemed well-suited to the 4X4-led arms race on our city streets :)

www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=279&Overide=1 This should do for the school run!
I do hope you aren't seriously proposing to take your kids to school in a vehicle without any heavy guns. That thing appears just to have a few slots for light arms, probably not even room for a machine gun

The company must sell a few otherwise they wouldn't be in business.
Who on earth buys them?

A large amount of witham's business is exported - think african dictators wanting a cheap army (or an armoured omega!)

An Omega? I thought that to have any credibility as an African dictator, you had to have a black Merc

Personally I'd prefer an AS90. Mobile, slowish, but with a certain capability to hit and run.

If you're looking to buy ex MOD landrovers, be aware of the following:
Those with escape hatches, snorkles and waterproofing features in and around the cockpit are from their anphibian range, and have most likely been used as such. They work well up to the driver's nose in water but may have been dunked several times in either fresh or salt water and possibly not had the chassis cleaned properly every time.
In general they will have been abused to a much greater degree than civvy ones, because the squaddies will know how to get the best out of them, and some will most likely have been used in combat, where regard for the inhabitants has to be taken into consideration for over and above the vehicle.
Unless you specifically want an ex MOD landy for any features they may have, you may be better off with a civvy defender that has seen considerably lighter use on average and carry out some mods on them yourself. In addition ex MOD ones tend to go for a premium. It's a bit like the Camel Trophey Discoveries that people like to get hold of for a price - they want a Land Rover with history, so they go for one that they know has been through harsh conditions and is likely to require more maintenance - and pay extra for it!
Ironically, the best value Land Rover to go for is one that has only been used for the school run!
In addition you may be interested to know that the MOD were insistant that they did not want the TD5 engine in a recent batch of Defenders ordered. Land Rover used the discontinued 300 TDis instead. Many land Rover buffs prefer the older 200 and 300 TDis to the TD5s because the latter involve more electronics, which whilst it makes them more reliable, can make them much more difficult to fix in the home workshop, or in the MODs case, in the field.
You can get some great deals on reasonable civvy 200 TDi defenders. These are easily adaptable to take a range of body mods, so converting one into a Wolf style for instance should not be too much work.

Would second what Hugo said. Thrashed the pants off the one I was assigned to recently, as no doubt every pongo that had ever driven it had. Even managed to lift all 4 wheels off the ground over one hump. Proper tactical, as didn't make the cattle grid rattle!

Hi. Thanks for the info. Witham looks as though they do tenders so that is worth keeping an eye out for. I was trying to find out if there was a specific auction centre that the MOD dealt with where I could bid for a 90. Any ideas? Which search engine did you use to get them from?
Thanks
