Loads of them 'round RLBS & Warwick!

Probably an area of high car ownership.

At one time (I don't know whether it still applies) nearby Coventry had a greater number of cars per head of population than anywhere else in the country. (And in case you were wondering, this didn't include those in manufacturers' compounds awaiting delivery!)

That must be true! You can't move for cars 'round here. Funny really, when I'm on my travels meeting people, most of the UK seems to think Warwick is a quiet little village!

Loads around Bristol / Bath - mainly new Astras.

Ahem, I see one every day actually, the same one parked outside my house, my new Primastar LWB!

Other than that, apart from the dealerships, I have only seen cars, not commercial vehicles.

Despite rising interest rates, the big loan companies are now quoting lower typical APRs. Plus discounts are the big incentive to get new registrations at the moment. For example, a Nissan dealer was able to do a final discount of some £3000 plus vat or more off the lost price for the van in the end.

I haven't noticed as many 54 rges as previous new regs though.

Dealers are talking 'grim' or a bit grimmer than, of late, it seems.

We'll have to wait n see what the pre-reg end of month figures look like.

100's of Corsas or Fiestas or something, sold on 30th September!!

Apart from the one outside our house and a couple at school (clearly company cars) seen not too many in the Manchester area

Only seen two round here, and I am on the road a lot several days a week. There is nowhere near the excitment regarding new reg's since they began changing every six months and then altered the numbering system.

Maybe that plus people's awareness of possible interest rate hikes and the effect on mortgages have taken there toll.

I've seen loads - probably got something to do with the fact i work for a Toyota main agent!

This september has been a quiet one though. Last september my department did 93 new vehicles, this year we've only done 55.

Do you know, I've been wondering where they all are too.

Mine is sitting outside, now costing about £9.32 every day, but the number on the roads here in London does seem less than at any previous new registration times.

It may go some way to explaining my dealer offering the time of my choice when picking up the car on September 1st. I thought he'd be offering say one hour slots, but he just said anytime. When I was there at 11.30 am (didn't want to look too keen!) I was the only chap collecting a new car and saw only two others with 54 plates being prepared.

The deep recession is nearly upon us?

Speaking to other dealers it does seem as if people are holding off buying new vehicles and we're all sitting round twiddling our thumbs (or in my case reading lots of internet forums!)

I was very busy at the start of month though - 26 cars handed over in the 1st four days of September

I don't think it's just car traders twiddling thumbs. Only today I learned of not 1, not 2 but 3 cancelled house extension jobs from a couple of my builder colleagues.

Car 54 where are you?

Reckon many people think that 02, 03, 04 etc looks better than 52, 53, 54 on a plate (the exception will be 55), if I was going to buy a new car now I would have done so last month, not this, on an 04 plate and got a better deal, otherwise I would now wait until 05 and get the added benefit of a 2005 reg car. I am sure I am not alone, in other words I suggest that many more cars are registered March to August than September to February now days.

Anyone got any figures on this?

Isn't part of the reason that most private car buyers have long since realised that buying a brand new car and then suffering the initial depreciation, is not quite as hard on the bank balance as buying its six to nine-month-old low mileage equivalent for a lot less dosh?

More than likely the neighbours will still haven't fathomed out the registration numbers sequence and will think it is brand new.

Oh! Surely nobody using this site is stupid enough to buy a car to try and impress the neighbours.

On a slightly different note: I was driving up the M1 yesterday and in the usual traffic jams had plenty of time to inspect the car tranpsorter nest to me in the queue. Every car on it was a brand new Rover with a 53 registration number. They all looked brand new: no muck on tyres, clean underneath, shiny paintwork etc. ANybody offer an explanation? These cars nust have been registered about a year but lookeed unsold? Is there somewhere selling dirt cheap year old rovers?
Distinct lack of 54 plates.... - blue_haddock
They've got to get rid of all those pre-reg's somewhere!

The Rover dealer that i work next to had a bumper september for registrations - shame all the cars they 'sold' are still sat on the forecourt but now they're advertised a pre-reg's with a grand knocked off the price!
