Insurance company Hype - Collos25
Don't you just get fed up with all this hype from insurance companies,come with us and save £100 or £150 we will save you this or that amount.I was just looking for alternative cover for next years insurance and companies came within £30 pounds of each other ,some providing free unlimited euro mainland cover and others very limited.Some of the major players who tell you that they will save you the most where in fact upto £200 dearer including the elephant and that obnoxious dog.Surely the advertising standards authority cannot allow such blatent miadvertising to go unpunished.

I could not resist posting here. A few of you may remember a few months back, me whining on here about insuring my new car. I was very happy with..er... "The Dog one" until I went to actually buy it and read their "assumptions". Need to be over 21. Great. I went with someone else but I keep getting dog shaped cards with "Mr XXX" We can save you £200 if you move to "Chu...The Dog one". I feel like writing back and asking how that's possible when I'm 2 years too young.

The total stands at 4 now and counting.

It hignes, I think, on the claim 'on average outr customers save x amount'
Since all the people who found cheaper cover elsewhere will have gone elsewhere, this actually only takes account of those who did find them to be cheaper.
So, while entirely truthful, it is also quite misleading.
What it appears to say is 'we are cheaper than out competitors', but what it actually says is 'for the people for whom we were cheaper, we're cheaper'.

Yes I agree but the beauty of the net means you can enter all your details on their websites without repeating yourself over and over on the phone and having to put up with the "yes but we cover your wheelnuts up to the value of £100000..." excuse when they quote you £200 more than a competitor.

Personally I have used Direct Line/Tesco* for almost all of the last 10 years as they always seem to be the cheapest for "Mr Average" such as myself.

*Standard do not work for them/no connection to them whatsoever disclaimer applies!

I too get loads of these. One company accosted me at a show and insisted they could save me money. My reason for declining their eventual price was it was genuinly twice that of my existing cover.

These days I just name whichever of my fleet they would not touch with a bargepole. Full race engines keep most at bay at bay!
