This is highly irregular, did the man fill his boot with petrol?
Did he spill loads on the floor? That's what I think, the floor must have been awash with petrol. Petrol would need the surface area and vapurs to go up like that, and a fuel pump problem in the tank or similar would give a fire that takes much longer to take hold. I once saw a forecourt video where a transit van driver filled two tin cans (like engine oil used to be sold in) with petrol at the back of his van, but he left the engine running. He placed one on the floor with no lid, next to the tailpipe and it caught fire while he was filling up the seconf, it was like a large candle flame, until he decided to boot it across the forecourt, in doing so, the petrol station became a fireball! I seem to recall the woman behind the counter just went completely hysterical. It was only a quick thinking customer paying for his guel that got the extinguishers and phoned 999.

Surprised I didn't hear that actually - I live about half a mile from that service station. Nasty business. Must admit I'm getting more and more worried about simple things like using the keyfob to unlock the car these days when you read stories like that.
