Nissan -- who owns it? - buzbee
Is Nissan still a Japanese owned company?

Clearly there is cooperation between many manufacturers. Nissan and Renault, for example. But is this as far as it goes with Nissan?

reinforce the mutual interests of both partners: it's the aim of the cross-shareholdings, which mean that each company profits from the performance of the other. Renault raised its stake in Nissan from 36.8% to 44.4% on March 1, 2002. On May 28, 2002 Nissan finalized its acquisition of a holding in Renault, taking its stake to 15% - without voting rights
strengthen the strategic management of the Renault-Nissan group, by setting up Renault-Nissan BV, an equally-owned management company operating under Dutch law. Renault-Nissan BV is the strategic command structure of the Alliance in charge of coordinating its operations worldwide. The reinforcement was accompanied by two appointments. Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan, was appointed to Renault's Board of Directors. The appointment of Shemaya Lévy, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Renault, to the Nissan Board will be proposed to Nissan shareholders at their 2002 Annual General Meeting.
maintain the separate identities and independence of the two groups, which will continue to be responsible for their own operating activities. The French State has announced it would lower its shareholding in Renault to 25%, to support the reinforcement of the Renault-Nissan group.

I have never understood why Nissan wanted to associate their name (slightly mispelled) with a particularly shoddy style of prefab hut used by the military. I always picture Nissans as having bodywork made of corrugated asbestos, slimy green with old moss, and dripping with condensation inside.
Perhaps it means a luxury penthouse in Japanese.

>>particularly shoddy style of prefab hut>>

Where I live, there are still quite a number of wartime prefabs forming an "estate" - the owners keep them immaculate and they are still bought and sold on the housing market.

Co-operation between vehicle manufacturers has been going on for many years - look at the early history of BMW, Toyota etc before moving on to the links between Ford and Fiat and VW, Renault and Volvo, Proton and Mitsubishi and many others.

Datsun was a nicer name. Looked better spelled in Kanji as well.

IIRC (and I'm back in the '60's here where there were many Japanese cars in Australia) before that it was called Prince Motors.

Goodness, the vino has a left a few brain cells untouched and I'm right:
