Montego Heater - Jon

The heater of my F reg Montego has stopped working. The fan operates ok but it never gets warm.

Could this just be a fuse or is it likely to be something more serious?

thanks

Jon

Does the car reach operating temperature okay (ie after driving 10 mins doesn the temperature gauge move from rest to about half way)? If not then the problem is almost definitely the thermostat - a 5 quid (tops) part that you can replace yourself (don't forget the gaskets) in 10 minutes. If you are not someone who likes tampering with your car then any independant garage can do this job in 20-30 mins on this car.

Definitely not a fuse though if the fan is working...

As Dan says if the blower is blowing then it isn't the fuse.

Just two possibilities. The heater matrix isn't hot due to a blockage/stuck open thermostat or there is a failure in the control cables/lever such that the hot position selected in the car isn't selected on the actual heater.

The engine coolant thermostat gave trouble on these cars. Part No GTS1106 should cure the problem. Not expensive, either.

If it costs more than a tenner to fix, then scrap the thing.

I speak from having owned two of the things.

And you probably think it was two too many!
The best way to heat a Montego is to set fire to it.
A shame, since the basic design was much better than the Ford s and Vauxhalls of the day,but poor old BL just could not get their stupid heads round the very simple concept of build quality, not that they were alone,Fiat Group are you listening?
