I have a 2002, 51 plate 318iSE with 71k on clock. It is a manual with FBMWSH.
It is in immaculate condition inside out.
I have advertised it at £11,490 but there is hardly any interest. Surely I have not overpriced it, or have I?
Thanks in advance

It's holiday season and you have private sale for over 11k. Low amount of phone calls is to be expected. Advertising "51" plate can be tricky too. 2001 51's can be easily found for under £10,000 from retail places. It's exactly that age gap, when judging by plate 2 year old car looks like 3 year old "out of warranty" vehicle, so make sure you advertise your car as "2002 BMW 318i SE" not "51 BMW 318i SE". Spending extra £250 for a good "02" or "52" plate, just for visual effect could actually save you money at the end...

It is illegal to put an 02 or 52 plate on a 51 car as you are not allowed to make a car appear newer than it is.
It is tough selling a car privately. I recently tried and failed to sell my MINI privately. Even though it makes little diference to the warranty I think people are reluctant to hand over large amounts of cash even though your car would cost ~£2k more from a dealer.
Have you consulted price guides to get an idea what your car is worth? If your price is right I suggest advertising in as many places as possible and being patient. This is a bad time of year I imagine to sell a car.
Good luck.

I think v0n meant waiting to buy the 02 car intially, hence "in the end". DVLA will refuse to let you put the 02 plate on a 51 car so it would be a bit pointless.

In future you may be better getting a diesel if you are usually so high mileage. People are less scared being a high mileage diesel as those engines should last a lot longer.

Private sale + mileage (out of warranty) = risk; to be honest you may look more like a disguised home trader. Most people buying that kind of car will want part exchange and finance facilities, too.
Without wanting to sound like a broken record, eBay may be an option.
Assuming that the colour and spec are both attractive, the price is about right, but not exactly cheap. If it were a pre-facelift model though, it would be well overpriced.
How much have you been offered in p/x? Anything nudging £10k and I would accept it without hesitation. (I agree about the diesel thing, although I imagine that either you have your own reasons for not choosing one already, or in fact are selling the BMW to get one.)

To be honest now is not the best time to be selling a car, come the 1st Sept when the new reg is out there will be a load of PX cars come available.
As has been mentioned a lot of people will be wary about a private sale with a relatively high cost, at this age/cost a high percentage of people are willing to pay dealer prices purely for peace of mind.

It is still under BMW warranty till early 2005. BMW warranty is for three years unlimited milage.

It is a black car with a black interior - I find it attractive.
Yes, it is the facelift model with the 2000CC (143bhp) engine

Well I don't want to part exchange, for I do not want buy from a dealer.

Well I bought the car second hand, it already had a bit of miles.
The funny thing is that I have just done an Autotrader search - a nationwide search - the two cheapest 2002 BMW 318iSE are at £10,990 and £11k and both have done almost 100k. Parkers price guide says £14,250 at 20K. So, I thought I am pricing it right.

There's a 'Y' reg 320SE D with 88000 currently selling on e-bay. At last look it was up tp £10800.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.....

All 3 series BMW are very common now. Who would want to be seen in one! Not Me.
