Cavalier engine cleaning - Archie

I've bought a '94 1.6 Cavalier as a first car for my son. Whilst it's generally in excellent order the cam cover gasket has been leaking. Although the history shows it was recently replaced, the mess hasn't been cleaned up. The lower half of the engine is filthy. I was going to use Gunk or similar, but I've got a tarmac drive so much water will be needed. Has anybody got a better method?

I've cleaned Cavaliers by getting the engine just warm & using a hot jetwash at a garage, whilst on fast idle. Avoid the plugs, distributor & coil obviously, and idle it long enough afterwards to dry fully, with the bonnet still up. All the rubbish goes into a settlement tank as well, instead of the rivers or your garden.
