97 Vectra 2.0 16V LS Boot lock problem - Ritz-dog
Anyone know of any smart ways of opening a boot? The catch is that I think the lock is busted. Was working fine up until when I tried it yesterday. Won't "unlock" from central locking (remote and key operated) or using the key direct into the lock. Doesn't sound like the motor is working at all from the central locking and when using the key there is no resistance (if u know what I mean) that would indicate the key has engaged properly and is moving the lock mechanism. Tried spare key as well with same result

If you haven't used the key in the boot lock very often (as you've relied on the C/L) it might be worth lubricating the lock first as the mechanism *might* be partially siezed. Try giving it a soaking in wd-40 or a similar penetrating fluid through the keyhole using the extension pipe.

An afterthought on this, you mention there is no resistance when using the key. This is perfectly normal behaviour when turning the key between the vertical and horizontal position. You should feel some resistance when you turn the key past the horizontal position (ie, turn to the right a bit further - approx to the twentyfive two position) then push the lock barrel inwards to unlock whilst still in this position.

Had this on mine , cdl motor had failed .I had to get in the boot from inside the car and push the lock clasp round with a screwdriver....fun.

I thought this as well. I get no resistance even when moving key from horizontal to twenty-five two>>

Looks like you'll have to try Zendo's suggestion. Please don't tell us that you've activated the rear seat locks to stop people gaining access to the boot from the rear seats.

Nah, luckily I haven't. I can push the latch so far with a screwdriver then it stops. About 5 mm more and it would disengage. Snapped a big screwdriver trying. Any ideas??
