My son's girlfriend's Uno 1.0 seems to be suffering from a squealing alternator belt. Being the good samaritan I offered to adjust it, then I opened the bonnet! Can any BRs offer some advise on adjustment to save me trying to figure it out tomorrow morning as it all seems hidden from view.

Assuming your 1.0 is the "FIRE" engine (OHC, exhaust down the front), and similar to the Panda....
The adjuster nut is (just) accessible from the top with a good combination spanner ( possibly 16mm ), at the side of the engine on the UK drivers side, towards the rear.
I have been known to use a wooden handled hammer shaft as leverage between the alternator body and the engine block to apply sufficient belt tension, while I re-tighten the adjuster nut.
If you're unlucky and the mounting bolt is too tight for it to pivot - that's accessed from underneath at the back of the engine.
If you get into the realms of a new belt, there is a cover/guard plate accessed from inside the wheel arch (wheel off, two, maybe three self tappers for the plate), which gives a better view of things, including the engine pulley which drives the belt.
