A young russian chap has just bought TVR. Peter Wheeler is to stay on as an advisor:

Let's hope he's not a chip off the old block of his criminally corrupt father.
|
"Alexander Smolensky, who reportedly now spends much of his time in Austria, helped bankroll former President Boris Yeltsin's 1996 campaign. After SBS-Agro's dramatic collapse, he famously told The Wall Street Journal that people were stupid for trusting him with their money, and that his foreign creditors deserved nothing "but dead donkey ears."
Rarely in the news these days, the elder Smolensky still controls a small bank called Stolichnoye Kreditnoye Tovarishchestvo, which until recently was called Severo-Zapadnoye OVK."
Source: The Moscow Times.
A valid comment Mr Tailpipes.

Well, it's refreshingly honest, at least. On that score, it certainly beats most of what gets reported in this country.

... and has an attributable source, getting us off the hook.

Ah, the straight talking Moscow Times, I've spent many happy mornings sat in the Aerostar reading from this newspaper.
Our journalists could learn a lot about how they write.
Mind you I think libel laws are pretty much non-existant.
Let's hope this new chap (incidentally he is 24!!!) puts the cash in for a new engine.
|
Russian libel laws or not, he issued a pretty robust statement directly to the Wall Street Journal!
|
Might be wrong, but I thought it's the son that's bought TVR.
Been round the TVR factory - labour of love for everyone there.
Presumablky Peter has proved something of a wheeler-dealer.

Presumablky Peter
Is that some kind of Russian joke? ;-)
Interesting news!
|
It's what's called a liternal in journalism - I failed to spot the "k".
It was a terrible pun anyway.
|
..the son, of course, of Smolensky.
Apparently he gave him a large slice of his ill-gotten gains but the son has turned out, so it's reported, as a bit of a straight sort of guy.
Now where have I heard that one before?
|
I have images of a cheshire cat grin and lots of hand waving.
|
I wonder if he'll just buy the rights to any cars he likes the look of, re-badge them as a TVR, but then never actually release them to be used.
*BB waits on tenterhooks to see whether his football reference will be noticed and result in a banning*

Bazza, I\'m an Arsenal supporter so you can make as many snide remarks about Chelsea as you like.
|
a***nal?!?
*Bazza mutters under his breath*
:p
|
How do you pronounce those "***" bits?
|
How interesting, look. I swore, and the filter blocked it. How apt.
Shall I try to swear again?
a***ne Wenger. :D
|
Chelsea? Is that who they're on about when people talk about the Chelsea pensioners? ;-)

Something to do with Bill Clinton isn't it?

Not sure 3500S why he needs a new engine existing AJ range very good. Few teething problems on the early ones but OK now especially considering power outputs. Magnificent effortfor small producer. Had a ride in a Tuscan a while back with AJ6, god did it go.......

Just wait till Mr Smolensky puts the AJ6 engine into a Lada.
