i just picked up a recon alt for my 1.3 1988 polo, the orig one has a 12v bolted on, a blue wire,and the suppressor thingy
this new one has a bank of three spade terminals marked D B and blank..plus another one thats ofset which maybe the suprresor
can this be adapted?? cus i got it cheep

I would suggest getting the correct alternator for the car.if you dont complications arise ie wiring.as you mentioned.not worth messing with in my oppinion.get the correct one for your car.cheap or not.?

New one should have come with info/diagram stating what terminal is what. Shouldn't then take too long to work out how to connect it up. Try a good local auto electrician if you get stuck (good old yellow pages).

Either of the big spades is the main output and the smaller spade is for the warning light wire. But agree with previous comments, better to fit the correct unit as the fitting offsets/ pulley alignments may be different.
