£1 car at auction - Alan
How much would the minimum comission have been for the seller and how much is the buyers indenmity fee for a £1 car.

But you'll still have to pay about £25 to get it towed to the scrapyard!

Not if you live in London (free disposal by the council).

Great - I can get it towed away free. Wow! I'm off to the auction to look for a £1 car. O-oh, problem - I've got to get it the hundred odd miles to London to take advantage of the free towaway.

A few months back, Manheim Auctions, Colchester were having problems with these 'bargain' cars.

Seems the local yob culture found it a cheap & entertaining way to spend a Thursday evening. Buy a car for a few £$£$£, race around & use up the fuel it contained, on the nearby roads, then set it on fire!

Didn't they have a competition between the Top Gear presenters as to who could buy the cheapest road legal car?

The one whose name escapes me (not Hammond or JC) bought a trade in from a dealer for £1. Still had ten months MoT on it too. Apparantly worth trying if you want a banger as it is cheaper for the dealer to give them away than scrap them.
£1 car at auction - patently
It was JC - he produced the receipt for £1.

May and Hammond paid about £50-75.

As VB points out, cars for this sort of cash can make themselves available to the idiots who spend even less insuring and taxing them and cost other people even more in hassle and heartache.

Someone ought to think about this before the government passes some act of Parliament to prevent the general public from going to and buying from auctions. This would completely ruin it for the law abiding public to get good deals from auctions.

Most of the cars I've bought at auction only seem to have enough fuel left in them to reach the nearest garage. I don't know how they manage to do that!
