one of the people in work has an 02 reg MX5 1.8. She has noticed corrosion on the alloy wheels and took it back to the Dealers (which she didn't get it from by the way) Service Manager said that "we've had a lot of these" the wheels will be replaced under warranty, problem is that there are so many being replaced that it will take until Sept or Oct for this to be done....if you have an MX5 check the wheels. She reported flakes of alloy coming off as she cleaned them...

Are you sure she wasn't confusing this for silver paint that was flaking off the aluminium wheel?

Actually had all the wheels of Mrs Vansboy's year old Mx5 last week.Washed the brake dust from inside & applied some wax, to help with easier cleaning.
No problems there, but did have them re-balanced, using stick on weights, leaving tiny marks where the clip on ones were rusting, a bit.
Were the ones you mentioned 'sport or a special edition, model?
As for a delay, I was of the impression the cars came into UK on steel wheels & were up speced over here.So you'd have thought there would be a big shed in a corner, somewhere, FULL of spares!!

One to watch is that many alloy wheel cleaners can do more harm than good - some contain acid I believe! That can't do any good. Soap, water and elbow-grease are best....a toothbrush seems to do the job for scrubbing. Best not to brush teeth with it afterwards though.... :-)

There's nothing wrong with using the more aggressive wheel cleaners, provided they get a very good jet wash immediately.
and then take it for a drive to dry the brakes out
