does anyone know or have any suggestions why my drivers side rear wheel on my 306 is closer to the inside of the arch than the opposite side. any help would be appreciated.

Nothigs so simple it can be mis-understood. Do you mean the the wheel is further up into the arch or the wheel is further to the right and there closer to the arch. You indicate it is the later. are you sure you have the same tyres and rims on the rear. Regards Peter

I seem to remember reading that this is a characteristic of 306's

Probably your rear-axle torsion-bar and bearings are worn out.
The bearings wear out due to rubber seals drying/cracking and letting dirt ingres into bearings.
Whats the mileage on your 306?

Yes all the tyres are exactly the same size all round they are the standard size. I have asked several people about the wheel and i have been told by a friend who owned a 306 that his was the same. The car is a D turbo and has done 83000 miles. Thanks for the link i will check it out.

p.s theres loads of clearance above the wheel its the inside edge of the tyre that is close

306 has an offset rear beam. perfectly normal for the drivers side to be closer to the arch, gap is also exaggerated by the fact only the drivers side has a liner in. As long as both wheels are parallel you shouldnt have any probs with bearings. Its when they camber in toward the top you have a problem.
