does anyone know what they are doing to the M42 in birmingham? the road works have gone on for ever! 50mph limit and not a workman insight!

U think that they are installing ne traffic information signs at the moment with the intention of variable speed limits as per the M25. In the future there is a proposal to have hard shoulder running too. Should be fun!

AND can anyone teel me why, nowhere up the length of the M40 were there any matrix signs lit up telling me that the slip to the M42 was blocked with single file most of the M42's length. If they had bothered, I might have been able to go up the M69 or over to Northampton last night rather than arriving in Sheffield 45 minutes PFDing later than I would have liked after the world's mot awfully signed diversion.
Not narked at all. Oh, no. Why do they put the eyesores up and then not use them?

From what i saw there are gantries going up exactly like the m25 variable speed limit - and if you look you can see the unlit red circles in the gantry displays!
Monday i went m40/m42/m5/m6 going t'north not too bad, and coming home thursday i went m6/m6 toll/m42/m40 going t'south - again not bad. M6 Toll? gee what an experience - empty motorway!
