Saw a new Mini earlier today and I have to say I was aghast at the colour of it, best described as off white or light grey. Each to their own etc but surely the young lady driving it will take a big hit at trade in time due to the colour. I have also seen a few in dull yellow which look iffy. (rant over)

Another classy one is the gold BMW - mmmm. Or the older yellowy-gold Nissan Micra "Vibe". Or the newer sickly lime-green Nissan Micra Frog/Telephone hybrid?

Or any white car (except Porsche GT3) - why do people do it? Are they insane? Perhaps they like depreciation. Or regular car-washing.

Boycott shoddy build and reliability.

Yeah... I reckon that all cars should be silver... oh hang on 90% of them are....

I just went to look at a C3 (keen price but their trade in value on my 206 represented a loss of £10 per day for the year I've owned it!). I digress, one Citroen colour was dire - a sort of metallic silver cum lilac colour. There were other quite nice ones but this lilac was the pits! Rant over too!

My sister got a C3 but was annoyed that she couldn't get a Misty Lilac one!!! (due to it being second hand)

So just to prove that people have different tastes...

dull yellow.....my first car was in ford daytona yellow, common in the 70s but in the 90s I could find that car in seconds in a crowded carpark.

btw, white is the most popular colour in Oz....two reasons, keeps the car cooler and believe it or now doesnt show up dust from the roads as much as a dark coloured car.

I.

Colour popularity varies depending on the country as well as the car.

Having said that, I can't see any good reason for the greenish brown 1997 Rover 400 I saw yesterday, other than they had some paint left over from doing Morris Marinas in the 70s.

It must make some cars practically unsaleable or worth hundreds less, so no wonder more people go for conservative colours.

Colours come and go as fashion changes. The much derided white was common and acceptable for a long time.

Personally, I have a suspicion that silver is on the brink of becoming the new beige. There are so many silver cars about now that it is becoming naff and boring. Five years time you might not be able to give them away.
Awful colour - patently
Wasn't white common because of all the company lease cars that you could choose from any colour as long as it was white?

Agree, though, silver is such a "safe" choice that everyone takes it if they don't know what to pick. It's got to rebound one day.

But did people ever choose beige?

I guess so. But others choose gold alloy wheels, so what does that tell us?

My experience exactly. Also (according to an AA survey) yellow cars are less likely to be involved in an accident than any other colour. Most vulnerable colours are the inconspicuous colours like dark blue and dark green.

IMHO you cannot beat the metallic Pink Honda Jazz for awfulness. Not far behind is the purply-blue that some Fiestas and Micras come in.
The diarrhoea-coloured Maxis and Marinas of the 70's took some beating as well.

I think the pink Jazz is wonderful, and I'd be tempted to buy one just to get that colour. But each to their own!

Yep...I'd like a car that colour too! Think it could just possibly be a girl thing.

>metallic silver cum lilac colour

And I'm just saying nothing about that!

The vile muddy brown that Allegros used to come in was one of my least favurite paintjobs, along with the purple Corsas - the range of colours those came in led to a discussion about whether or not the european version of the Vauxhall Corsa should be called the Opal Fruit.

My favourite colours would be vile on almost any car though, and those are Grabber Orange (a la Boss Mustangs) and Plum Crazy (Challengers).
