After watching that BBC programme this week, I wondered what HAS actually happened to replacement for the creaking Rover 45 (other than the 'restyle') ?
Anyone here any news ?!

No one knows, according to some mg-rover related web sites the project (RD/X60) might be scrapped.
The company will be gone sooner or later so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The replacement they had on their stand at the last motorshow was pretty nice, but that was 2 years ago.........where is it????
To be honest I would like to see them make a success of it, but given that the model range is as old as the hills they cant keep changing the grill and front bumper to keep it alive. Perhaps the £13M pension fund could have been put towards a new model............

I think that it is probably what's known in computer business as "vapourware" -- i.e. an aspiration rather than a product

As a long time (and reasonably satisfied) Rover owner, I really do wonder why they introduced that 'orrible concoction from the far east - top gear were right when they dubbed it the worst car they had ever tried- the money they spent on that (and the excorable Rover 25 Streewise) reminds me of the old Leyland days when £90million was spent on the abysmal TR7 and the MGB replacement was left to Mazda..........do they ever learn?

I agree.I think they could have done better for themselves

The cosmetic changes to these cars remind me of previous 1970s car production when the same technology was repackaged year after year...
Rover have produced their new supermini which sounds as if it is pretty uninspiring...The only model which looks half worth buying is the 75 in its MG guise (the new V8 looks particularly fun)and most of that is borrowed previous technology from other car manufacturers.
Unlike any other car manufacturer, it is not part of a larger group...and the telling sign is that, after the BMW fiasco, I can't see the big players queuing up to buy them, so they must view them as something of an irrelevance.
It seems pretty bleak, but, in the true British spirit, we're still out there buying these wretched things...presumably in the mistaken hope that we are buying British...
What a state!
Sorry, couldn't sleep...!
