How do i go about getting my rear windows blackened/darkened for security purposes its a vectra estate, cheers Steve.

Check the yellow pages or your local car accessory shop for a local firm that does it. Alternatively, you can buy the stuff yourself but think its quite a skilful job.
|
For 'security' purposes, eh? Round my neck of the woods, all the boyz have their windows blackened out on their 3 series so that nobody can see what they're carrying...
|
Easy there Mapmaker it's unlikely that the "boyz" drive Vectra estates :). I assume Steve that your some form of small buisnessman looking to protect his tools.
I would recommend getting it done professionally, you could try some of the specialist car window companies like autoglass or RAC windows (who seem resonably cheap if you take the car to them). Doing it yourself could lead to all sorts of problems with bubbles in the film misting up etc. and reducing your visability. I'm sure there was another thread on this subject some time ago........

Many moons ago I used the DIY tinting film on a perfectly flat, clean window in a door at work. Even in these conditions it was difficult to get a neat finish. Not so many moons ago I applied the same to the first Mrs ND's Daihatsu Sportrak rear windows. It didn't get any easier with practice.
IIRC it costs about £60 per window for a professional job, but worth it. It can take hours to get a substandard job using the film yourself.

I should add that the NoDoshMobile does NOT have film-tinted windows, nor will it ever have!

Your polished chrome alloys must feel very lonely then.

I thought Massey-Ferguson could supply them as standard ?

Seemingly this denial did not save you from the ridiclue you were expecting. Who'd have thought? ;)
Well, as long as you've still got your fluffy dice hanging from the mirror, who cares what other people think, eh?

::: sigh :::
Bazza, me old mucker, it seems jealousy is a powerful thing. When the owner of a Landbruiser calls your car a tractor you have to ask how secure they are in themselves.
Mapmaker is just upset because he thought he was buying something special when he saw an advert for an Avant but got an estate car, whereas we all know that the sportwagon is a 5-door sports coupe.....
;o)

Round here, many, many big 4X4s with blacked out windows are routinely stopped by the Guardia Civil. It's amazing how often there is upwards of a half tonne of hash in the back!

This may seem a silly question but I'd like an answer from someone who knows.
If you have darkened windows does it keep the interior cooler in sunny weather or does the black film heat up the glass that then radiates the heat inside? Also does it block infra red as well as visible light?
Having an estate I was thinking along the lines of blackened tailgate, rear and rear door glass with a 'legal' tint on the front doors. My 405 has air con but if I can stop it heating up that would be better.
Thanks.
Steve.

If you want to look cool in the pub car park then OK, otherwise don't do it.
If the PFDs think you are hiding something they will look on spec. My bitter experience is drawing across the rear space cover on my Legacy estate and losing the rear screen and damage to the big reflector. Cost about £800.00 to fix. Proceeds to the PFDs, two cheques from my wife's handbag cashed 20 miles away, total £80. My wife deliberately has a low key handbag, something that no self respecting thief would bother with BUT, it had in it her address book. Many tears shed.

That possibility had crossed my mind. I'm not the type to try to look cool at the pub...
Thanks.
Steve.
