On my Golf mk2 Driver,G reg, there are two inner lights, inbetween the outer headlights. They dont appear to work, are they a just a visual gimick,or are they,as a friend told me,some kind of foglights?Ive noticed the foglight switch has two positions on it,but it has no effect on those inner lights. If they are supposed to work, any ideas why they are not?

Could well be spotlights that only come on with main beam. Check to see if the bulbs, or fuse has blown. Someone may have removed a relay for whatever reason.

Have a check round the back of the headlamp, see if there are empty bulb holders, or an unused wiring loom

As I remember the inner lights only work when you 'flash' your headlights using the indicator. I think the front fog lights on a Mk Golf are located below the indicators if you have them.
But, with it being a Driver the double headlight grill might only be cosmetic.
I should know all this, having owned one a few years ago...just cant remember.

Had a Driver and a GTD Golf of this vintage. The auxiliary lights came on with the main beams on both cars.
Can't remember if they helped much.

they're full beam lights, drivers, gtds and gtis came with the four lamp grill the inner two being assistance for the main beam on the outer lamps. ie with full beam you'll have four lights on.
check the loom for the inner lamps is there and that your car is a driver rather than a gl with a bodykit. each inner lamp is on a different fuse so could be fuses, bulbs or wiring
